  23. Xanthus Announces OpenWrite Word Processor for NEXTSTEP

  25. Stockholm, June 16, 1994 - Xanthus International AB today announced
  26. its OpenWrite word processor application for the NEXTSTEP computing
  27. environment.
  28.  
  29. Aimed at everybody that wants to create documents on the NEXTSTEP
  30. platform, OpenWrite offers the functionality that  is expected in
  31. a high-end word processor, and many features found only in desktop
  32. publishing applications, such as character kerning, tracking and
  33. free-floating text blocks..

  35. OpenWrite can be used to produce anything from simple sales letters
  36. up to lengthy formatted reports.

  38. President and co-founder of Xanthus, Jesper Lundh said "OpenWrite,
  39. together with the new version of our Questor spreadsheet and our
  40. new Open Object Embedding standard, now makes it possible to deploy
  41. NEXTSTEP as a company-wide productivity solution."

  43. OpenWrite supports all the basic word processor features, as well
  44. as headers/footers, footnotes, free-floating text blocks, hierarchical
  45. styles, fixed and floating images, variables, borders, columns,
  46. multi-level undo, NEXTSTEP spell-checking and support for RTF, RTFD
  47. and WriteNow files. Microsoft Word and WordPerfect file support is
  48. planned.

  51. OpenWrite works with the new Open Object Embedding (OOE) standard
  52. from Xanthus. OOE is a new compound document standard from Xanthus
  53. that allows objects (drawings, graphs, tables, worksheets etc.) in
  54. a 'client application' document (like an OpenWrite document) to be
  55. edited by the correct 'server application' (drawing program,
  56. spreadsheet etc.) in a seamless manner.

  58. OpenWrite will also be available in a professional version that
  59. supports a number of advanced features such as multi-file books,
  60. automatic paragraph numbering, table of contents, index,
  61. cross-references, sorting etc.

  64. Alembic booth at NEXTSTEP Expo and in the Xanthus Suite at the San
  65. Francisco Marriott near Moscone Center.
